Celebrating the 11th Year, Oakland Carnival & Wellness Festival operates with the mission to present Caribbean music, dance, food, African Diaspora culture and community wellness as uniting platforms.

Oakland Carnival & Wellness Festival is a multi-generational, culturally diverse, family-oriented, free community festival.

Who Are Our Experts?

Chyna Hill PhD, MSW/ACSW, MA

Dr. Hill is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and therapist with deep professional roots in the Bay Area.

She works with Black women and Women of Color to process trauma, anxiety, and burnout from carrying too much for too long. Her practice is direct, intersectional, and grounded in clinical training and real life.

Dr. Hill is trained in EMDR, CBT, and Brainspotting, and has led research and mental health efforts at places like Google, USC, and an Oakland-based nonprofit. She helps clients move beyond survival mode and into lives that feel more honest, intentional, and their own.

DeAngela Cooks, LMFT

DeAngela Cooks is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist based in the Bay Area who works closely with BIMPOC and Queer communities during times of transition.

She uses a client-centered, narrative approach, blending talk therapy with ancestral wisdom, intuitive practices, and moments of stillness. Her sessions are a space for honesty, reflection, and connection, without the pressure to explain who you are.

DeAngela believes healing should feel like coming home to yourself. She focuses on care that affirms identity, honors lived experience, and supports people in moving through life with more ease and self-trust.

DeShannon Williamson, LCSW

DeShannon Williamson is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker born and raised in Oakland.

He is dedicated to supporting marginalized communities through mental health care and mentorship. He brings decades of experience to his role as a therapist with Alameda County’s Probation Department and continues to serve his community through board positions with BOSS and 100 Black Men of the Bay Area.

DeShannon’s work focuses on affirming Black mental health, offering understanding, nonjudgmental support, and real-world tools for growth. His deep ties to the Bay Area ground his commitment to making mental wellness accessible, especially for Black boys and families.

DeShannon Williamson, LCSW, headshot
Tony Jackson, PhD

Dr. Jackson is a clinical psychologist and co-director of PranaMind with decades of experience in therapy, teaching, and community-based mental health.

His background includes work with Children’s Hospital Oakland, Oakland Community Counseling, and Skyline College, where he led the ASTEP program and helped develop culturally responsive learning models. He specializes in trauma, addiction, family systems, and brain-based approaches to wellness, including psycho-nutrition and biofeedback.

Dr. Jackson is the author of several works focused on Black mental health and violence prevention. He brings deep knowledge, care, and a belief in the power of culture and community to support healing.
